Six of Crows+Crooked Kingdom: Duology Review
If you follow my instagram, (@thepageflippers) you know that for the last month or so I've been flailing constantly about Leigh Bardugo's books.Recently I just finished Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom I'm kind of late to the game reading them, but I loved them just as much as the people who got me to read them did! The magic system was IN-CRE-DI-BLE. The characters? Soft souls at heart who were slightly corrupted by their situation. Let's get started!
Six of Crows
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
So, this book was many things. It was pretty dark. It was adventerous. Mysterious. But most of all it was about FRIENDSHIP AND FINDING FAMILY WHEN YOU ARE ALONE AND I 👏AM👏HERE👏FOR👏THIS. *ahem* The adventure itself was great because it wasn't about 'SAVING THE WORLD.' No no. These guys just want their money so they can find their own happily ever afters. Interesting. Not exactly noble, but highly entertaining. Now, I did take away a star simply because of moral views. I did not endorse all of the ideas the book was trying to promote, and there was also a bit of language and violence.
Crooked Kingdom
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Same rating as the first book! The story only got better in the second book, the characters bonded and grew and softened their dark smol souls and began to CARE about people! It was wonderful to watch character arcs especially in Kaz and Inej! Oh and Matthias. Don't even get me started on him. I also loved the intricacy of the plans and how each character saw it. I took one star off for the same reason as the first book. Moral views clashed with this book, especially my Christian values.
Overall, I really, really did enjoy this book. It's well-written YA fantasy without some of the annoying tropes, but keeping the good ones. ALSO THERE WERE CROSSOVERS WITH THE FIRST SERIES BARDUGO WROTE. That sustained me through the suffering of Crooked Kingdom. It was amazing. Alright, so that's my review! Enjoy!
