Let's Talk Books! (Many Reviews of My Latest Reads)
Ok! So I thought I'd go back to my roots today and write some book reviews. It's been awhile since we did these, so I thought I'd do a few mini ones and also throw in an update on how my reading goals are going. If you guys remember from my first post of the year with Vicky (who promises to write for us soon -_-), I made a deal with myself to keep track of my reading and also to read 120+ books this 2018! So, recap!
January:
Books Read-3
1. The Winner's Crime by: Marie Rutkoski
This is the 2nd book in a series so I won't disclaim much BUT. The worldbuilding! The angst! The sheer heartripping beauty of it! It's a wonderful fantasy sort of book, with some great plot lines. I recommend it deeply, rating it.....4.5 stars!
2. The Hate U Give by: Angie Thomas
I avoided this book for SO long because A) hype and B) I am extremely wary of political books pointed at racial issues because I've seen one too many written inaccurately, or worse, biased to the point of making one side seem inherently evil. But this book was a really pleasant surprise! It appealed to my political spots, pleased the romantic in me, and gave me a very well balanced view of both sides of the story! I'm rating it 4 stars, simply because the amount of language in it was more than I generally approve of, but that's expected due to the setting being in a not-so-peaceful neighborhood.
3. Farenheit 451 by: Ray Bradbury
This is a much older book than the last two, but by no means was it any lesser of a great book! In fact, it was amazing, and I've never read something of it's kind! It was written over 60 years ago, and is a speculative fiction book, and some of the predictions Bradbury made were so accurate it's scary. I love the take it took on our society and it's growing lenience for mindless entertainment. Strongly encourage everyone to read it, but it isn't for a bookworm faint of heart. 5 stars!!
February:
Books read (so far)-4
1. Winter by Marissa Meyer
I have no words. No soul left. Or any money, because Marissa Meyer can just have it all already, I have officially sold everything I own so I can have ALL HER BOOKS. This was the finale in her Lunar Chronicles series, and it was the kind of series that just got better and better and the last book turned me into a puddle of goop on the floor. It's fantasy/science fiction which to me has never been a good blend but-IT WAS?! Fairy tale retelling in a dystopian/science fiction setting has never been this good. Read it, PLEASE! Another 5 star rating.
2. The Land of Stories: Worlds Collide by Chris Colfer
If anyone dares to say these books are for younger children I will unleash all the wrath of Mother Goose on them (you'll understand when you read it). This was another series finale, and I may or may not have teared up. I've been reading the books since they came out, they're a fairy tale series and you may or may not sense a trend in my book tastes. I'm a sucker for anything fairy tales. Anyway, the book was well written and executed and tied up all the loose ends quite. Nicely. Well....mostly. *ominous music plays* 4.5 stars-ENJOY!
3. The Sun Is Also A Star by: Nicola Yoon
Whoever decided something this cute could be written is mentally unstable but I give them all the thanks in the world. I loved Everything Everything by Yoon and this was another great book! It took a cliche and made it...not cliche??? I didn't believe it was possible but she made 'love at first sight' completely believable. It was an adorable book and gave me many feels. I give it 4 stars only due to language and some personal moral convictions.
4. A Short History of The Girl Next Door by: Jared Reck
Because I can't agree with the Internet on EVERYTHING....this book was not my jam. It was okay, and the writing was good, and the plot was decently feels inducing but...it went about things in the wrong way and did not appeal to me. The language was very crude and so were some of the references it made to actions of the characters. Just wasn't for me. 3 stars.
And that is all I've read this year so far guys! Over all Ive had a pretty good month and a half of reading, so round of applause for the authors! I hope you guys like the reviews!
