Pushing Through
It's the middle of the night. You wake up, startled by a nightmare. Or, maybe you simply need to make a quick trip to the bathroom. Flinging the covers off and lowering your feet to the freezing floor, you take a deep breath. Even though you know the way to wherever it is you need to go, the darkness hides every possible obstacle, keeping you...well, in the dark. Shuffling from your room, you begin the journey. All is going well, and you begin to internally cheer, you're going to make-oof!
An unseen enemy blocks your path. A lego block, perhaps. *shudders* Or maybe a box. Or a shoe that some sibling left stranded in the hallway, making you stumble to your knees, scrambling for balance. We've all been there, I'm sure. Making your way through the dark isn't a very pleasant experience. Physically....or spiritually.
There are times in our lives when the world seems to be void of any light to lead you down the right path. When we feel completely blind, lost. We know which way to go, but not being able to see it clearly can cause us to trip and stumble. That part can be inevitable. The part we need to work for is the getting up again.
The pain shoots up your leg, hand, or whatever limb was mangled in the darkness with your fall. Preferably, it would be great to just sit there and wait until someone comes and turns the light on, or even better, crawl back into your warm bed, pull the covers over your head, and forget about whatever you needed to do, regardless of the consequences. Our lives can feel that way. We make a mistake, trip up, and want to just lie there, wallowing in the hole we've dug ourselves. It's a lousy feeling. Even after repentance and wanting to make things better, you still feel like the most pathetic human being on Earth, and the pain is not getting much better, nor is the darkness being replaced by dawn.
"You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light." 2 Samuel 22:29 (NLT)

The darkness tends to blind us sometimes, make us feel like we can never move on. What kinds of situations have you felt bind you to these feelings? Share what you think in the comments! :)
